The organization announced it has had a successful financial close of $135 million to finance the flagship facility expected to be completed in early 2027. The facility is set to process 200,000 tonnes of source-separated organic waste from Newmarket, Aurora and the rest of York Region. Convertus initially broke ground on the project alongside York Region in October 2024. York Region contracted Convertus to build the project at $490 million plus HST, seeking a different way to process green bin material without sending it to outside facilities like one in London.
